It's been a busy week on the open race road with a mixture of success. A good night at Monmore on Thursday saw us land a four timer while over at Hove Calco Flyer bounced back to form to land his heat of the Sussex Cup. On a downside our TV Trophy contender Ribble Atom suffered a shock defeat on Tuesday and a return to our regular Friday nights at Romford saw us leave empty handed.

On Saturday the TV Trophy heats kick off at Towcester with 18 marathon runners bidding to land the £8,000 first prize and we expect last year's winner Ballymac Bonnie to return from across the sea to defend her title. We hope to have Ribble Atom back to her best and in what may be an open contest she should go well, I think these days Lord Hesketh's bitch who was 3rd last year is looking like 906m is too sharp for her and she would easily get another lap! Towcester is also preparing for a busy month ahead with the Lowther Stakes for bitches on the horizon and our main hope Domino Storm returns tomorrow in a trial stake. Our Select Stakes and Oaks heroine will be one of the favourites for the event which has an incredible £20,000 first prize.

Hove on Thursday has some decent supporting competitions running along side the Sussex Cup and we hope to be represented in all of them. Calco Flyer certainly faces no easy task in his semi final and he is one of our third season dogs still performing to a high level and I'm sure he has another big final well within his capabilities and with the aid of trap 1 he should go well.

We are just beginning to get an influx of new dogs not only coming into the kennel but on the card and expect some new names to be appearing both at Towcester and on the open race road. I will also have a couple of decent pups on our for sale page over the next month or so as we enter a busy last half of the year and despite what seems some tough times ahead for our sport with still a serious lack of funding in general the Towcester wow factor has kept us busy and we have many owners new and old still looking for us to train for them and our kennels are virtually full, long may that continue!

clondoty_alex_fd.JPGAs said on Tuesday Ribble Atom disappointed in a TV Trophy trial stake at Towcester when only second but we had better luck on Thursday at Monmore as Airforce Duchess won over 480m in 28.26, Ferryforth Fran picked up a 630m in 37.84 and Clondoty Alex bounced back from his William Hill Classic defeat to run well and hold off Along Came Finn by a short head in 28.17. Billys Bullet completed a good night taking a 684m contest by a length in 41.31. Over at Hove our four Sussex Cup runners were pitched in two separate heats with only Calco Flyer qualifying as he beat Ballymac Ramsey by 1 1/4 lengths in 30.03.

At Romford on Friday our seven runners all met their fair share of trouble with Deanridge Angel coming closest to winning when he was 3rd in a very good 575m race.

airforce_karla_fd.JPGOn Tuesday we had a couple of nice winners with Energize Honey who is going the right way scoring by 2 lengths in an A7 in 29.12 and there was an excellent 15.28 by Airforce Karla in a top grade sprint.

Roswell Roxanne won a messy A4 on Friday and on Saturday a busy night as our Markwallisgreyhounds Racing Club celebrated a summer social night in one of the executive boxes - though a great night for all we weren't quite as successful on the track with none of the four Racing Club runners obliging. Swift Bravo scored in 28.80 and there was an excellent win for the improving Shlowdown Sally in 15.40 in top grade but we had a few seconds with Calco Swift, Ferryforth Fran, Deanridge Angel and Saltimbanco.

Tuesday there are a few opens at Towcester with Domino Storm the star attraction. On Thursday Calco Flyer bids to make another big final when he runs in the Sussex Cup semi final at Hove and a few other supporting competitions should see a star quality card - Patchys Kerry returns after her fall at Sunderland in the Ladies event and impressive Nottingham winner Ela Ela Genie in the sprint.

We will be at Romford Friday and on Saturday the TV Trophy kicks off at Towcester with 3 heats.

Our ante post selection in the Sussex Cup Rubys Rascal went down but he's a dog to follow in the coming months. Ribble Atom was a shade disappointing in a TV Trophy trial stake on Tuesday but hopefully that will see her ante post price ease and she is worth a nibble to improve on last year's third place she achieved.

RIBBLE ATOM - 2 pts e.w ante post - TV Trophy - Towcester - Saturday

RUBYS RASCAL - 2 pts e.w ante post 33/1 - Coral Sussex Cup - Hove - lost
