Aero Blackjack - Puppy Stayers
Centaur Decree - Ladbrokes Arc Winner 2008
Going into last Saturday's big races at Crayford and Oxford I must admit that I thought our runners would go well but we would do well to win either but on reflection it seems that we were most unfortunate in both! Tipp The Breeze drifted out to 7/1 in the betting for the Ladbroke Golden Jacket on Saturday morning but when she led briefly at the second bend the brief feeling of joy was quickly dispersed as she lay flat on the ground at the 5th bend after colliding with favourite Swift Jade. Thankfully she is OK after her escapades and although I heard nearly everyone say that Swift Jade was going to win I certainly agree with one comment that it would have got to the leader Shelbourne Merc too early which would have brought Tipp The Breeze right back in to the race! Well we will never know and at the end of the day it's Shelbourne Merc's connections that picked up the trophy and handsome cheque for £15,000. Just to rub salt in the wounds, on Saturday night in the Trafalgar Cup Puppy Final at Oxford, Lockdale Diamond looked a 1/3 shot as he quickly got to leader Drink Up Zoro just before the third bend with a tremendous burst of pace down the back straight but the door was firmly shut in his face at this point and he was forced to check back and after storming back up the home straight he failed to peg back Paul Sallis' dog by 3/4 length. Though unlucky, Lockdale Diamond was only having his 4th race and looks like he could well be a big race winner in the future. As I have said many times to our owners, this is a game where you need plenty of lady luck and quite often it's a matter of swings and roundabouts so let's hope luck is on our side this Tuesday as Centaur Decree prepares for the biggest race of his career to date when he lines up in the final of the Racing Post Arc (£13,000 to the winner) at Walthamstow which is live on Sky Sports.
A busy week's action started on Tuesday with the heats of the Trafalgar Cup at Oxford and both our runners made it to the final with Lockdale Diamond runner up in his heat behind Drink Up Zoro by 2 lengths in 27.04(+10) and Seanis Lad justifying favouritism when winning by just over a length in 27.09(+10). No luck though at Sheffield where we sent three runners for the Queen Mother Trophy.
On Thursday in the semi-final of the prestigious Racing Post Arc at Walthamstow, Centaur Decree did the most important job of breaking well and with chief rival Mildean Flash turning second it was race on! The third bend proved crucial as Flash just got inside our runner and in a desperate finish held Centaur Decree off by a neck in 28.89 and both hounds will still fancy their chances on Tuesday.
Friday night at Romford saw a good open race card again and our runners were involved in some tough races including Aero Blacjack who was made a 4/6 favourite and despite a good break he couldn't shake off the attentions of two rivals until the 5th bend, eventually scoring his 5th win of the year by 3 lengths in 36.31 (-10). Our other runners all ran well - Blackey Said So (3rd), Roswell Zodiac (2nd), Bell Classic (2nd) and Millwards Summit (3rd). Genesis Alix didn't get a chance to repeat last week's victory when she was almost ko'd at the first bend when in a good position.
A big day for the kennel on Saturday started in the morning with Tipp The Breeze in the final of the Ladbroke Golden Jacket and as stated above ended with an unlucky k.o. At Oxford, in the supporting races for the Trafalgar Cup, Butterbridge Ali found trouble in running in the 640m race and eventually ran on for second but well beaten by 6 lengths by Shelbourne Capri in a fast 39.47(+30). Seanis Strike missed his break and was 3rd behind impressive winner Brickfield Class in a 450m standard but Genesis Dream again proved she is one of the fastest bitches in training when beating a good field by 1 3/4 lengths in a good 36.29(+20). As said above, Lockdale Diamond ran a blinder in the big final and our other runner Seanis Lad couldn't get in the race after a slow start. In an important Puppy Deby trial stake meeting at Monmore Rockburst Mason improved for the previous week's sighter when winning his race comfortably by 3 1/2 lengths in 28.45 (+20). Castlemary Podge (4th) and Missed A Train (3rd) both ran OK in their respective races and in an unexpected 480m standard open Eye Onthe Force came up against the returning Barnfield On Air and led down the back straight and it came as a surprise that the challenge to him came from Ted Soppit's Calzaghy Ted who got the better of him by 2 lengths in 28.76 with Barnfield On Air back in third.
Monday's Bags meeting started well when Fools And Horses scored a convincing victory by 5 lengths in a fast 29.20. Chilli Blue ran well in third before Macbart again surprised a few people with his 5th win from 6 races when comfortably winning by 3 3/4 lengths in 29.11. In a trouble marred race Lews Trickster followed last week's win by scoring by 7 lengths in 29.79. For a dog of his class it's been a while since Armies Plan had won but when he led on the run up there was only one winner and he went on to score by 2 3/4 lengths in 28.92. To complete a good day Ants Gunner gave us a kennel 1-2 when beating Directors Vision by 4 lengths in 29.34.
An interesting Tuesday card for the kennel with some new pups on display. Freedom Man showed good pace but was comprehensively beaten by a more experienced pup in Centaur Elise who ran well to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 29.40. Centaur Lucky looked well in when caught by 'chaser' Wheres Rosie in 29.57. Bell Tornado was another debutant who ran a promising debut when 4th. The S1 resulted in a kennel 1-2 when Lode Star returned to form to beat Twilight Fantasy 2 3/4 lengths in 39.88. Another returning to the winner's paddock was veteran Special Deal who won the A2 by 2 1/2 lengths in 29.03. Bell Classic also ran well when 3rd in the A1 beaten just under a length in 28.87.
On Thursday Eye Onthe Flame burst onto the hurdle scene with an emphatic 5 3/4 length victory in a good 29.79 (-20) in a H2. Imperial Singer (2nd), Kinda Flashy (2nd), Jonos Patience (3rd), and Eye Onthe Jewel (2nd) all ran well before Blue Rizzler latched onto the bunny to beat kennel mate Ants Gunner by 3 3/4 lengths in a fast 28.91 (-10).
Saturday night saw again Genesis Jose run a stormer but with no luck finishing 2nd beaten by 1 1/4 lengths to Kid Joker who got first run in 29.19 (-10). Vigorous Whitney was another veteran who ran well this week but just failed to pick up promising pup Special Liberty by a head in 28.99 (-10). Bell Tempest (3rd) and Largo Lassie (3rd) were best of our other runners.

GRADED:- BLUE RIZZLER
WHATS ON THIS WEEK
The heats of the Coral TV Stayers over 575m at Romford kick off our week with Stride On Babe, Millwards Summit and Bell Classic entered.
Tuesday is one of Walthamstow's premier nights as the final of the Racing Post Arc worth £13,000 to the winner is the feature race on Sky and with our Centaur Decree running from an ideal trap 6 we have a realistic chance. In a good supporting card we have a few decent chances. We will also have runners at Harlow on Wednesday and hopefully be back for the final of the TV Stayers at Romford on Friday. Also we shall see the return of two of the kennels major players in Eye Onthe Veto and Directors Chair as they blow the cobwebs away in trials.
