DERBY BUILD UP CULMINATING IN BLONDE SNAPPER'S FANTASTIC DERBY FINAL WIN
Our unbelievably successful season came to an end at Coventry last night and Castlebride Dan can go in our history books as the last winner of 2012 when he brilliantly took the honours in the match race against Barry Draper's Bower West recording a stunning 29.14 just 9 spots off the clock. We will now have a break from racing until the New Year, our hard working staff will enjoy an extra couple of days off over the break and we have sorted a good rota system out where the dogs in our kennel will enjoy their normal routine plus a few extra tit bits and extra walks, of course they don't know it's Christmas and its our priority that they are looked after in our usual high standard.
At Wimbledon on Thursday the Sky cameras caught some brilliant action and now everybody in greyhound racing hopes that it will not be the last ever Sky programne but going into 2013 we are all waiting with bated breath for the results of some delicate negotiations going on behind the scenes. We all most definitely owe producer Dave Lawrence a debt of gratitude for his tireless work over the last 15 years in bringing greyhound racing that much needed national exposure through Sky and he would be a most deserving winner of the sports 'Services To The Industry' award later next month.
Lil Risky our last runner of the year on Sky signed off in brilliant style, exploding from the traps in his best fashion 'Jimmy' beat a good field in a fine 16.28. This win meant that he joined Boher Paddy and Aero Gaga in Sky's top dog award with 5 wins and was a fitting end to another brilliant year for him. I really think he would be a worthy winner of the British Bred award at the London Lancaster next month.
In other news this week a significant forward move for our sport was announced on Thursday where four GTA representatives will be allowed onto some GBGB committees. I was delighted to accept the invitation to join the Racing Committee and look forward to working with them over the next year. Yes I will be fighting for a better deal for all trainers and owners for both graded and open racing but most importantly I will try to bring some fresh ideas to bring the sport forward in the future.
With no more runners this year our popular 5 To Follow competition has come to an end and what an exciting end to the year we have had. Unbelievably we hae a tie for first place between Matthew's Magical Mutts 12 and Molly 1 both on 375 points and with Ashley Beckwith back in 3rd place on 373 points. Welll done to all - it could not have been closer!
Our website Review of 2012 with our awards for the year hopefully will be up by next Sunday/Monday and this is always a fabulous read so please log in and enjoy with us our superb highlights of 2012.
This just leaves me to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!!
On Thursday at Wimbledon apart from Lil Risky's superb sprint victory Benkaat Blue also finished the year as he started with a great win in the 480 race before Sky came on air by over 4 lengths in 28.96 on a slow track. The going on the outside didn't favour Ballintine Molly who was 4th in the bitches race.
Over at Henlow Benkaat Boy also capped off a good year with an authoritive win over 428m by 6 lengths and Bridge Bandit ran well again when second over 550m.
On Friday at Romford Ayamzabeauty scored well over 575m in a good 35.76 and looks one to follow in 2013 while Darian Chief was a close up third in the top division.
As said on Sunday at Coventry Castlebride Dan won the match race in a brilliant 29.14 while the improving Jazz Tilly took the bitches race I sponsored in a superb 29.27.
YARMOUTH AND COVENTRY GRADED REVIEW
Again our few runners on Saturday night at Yarmouth were given little chance and with conditions very wet it didn't suit most of our strong running type pups who need to come from off the pace like Toosey Jensen, Toosey Faye and Hillcross Miami. Risky Blue came closest when second.
At Coventry on Sunday Keats Babe was graded in A5 for us and ran a blinder when second and this April 11 bitch should soon be on the scoresheet.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Having put up Ballintine Molly for a maximum bet last Sunday it all went wrong as she amazingly didn't get in the six bend race I had intended her for but instead was put in the Ladies race and with a big bias to the inside runners we were cooked before we started. Still I'm confident that when I work the final figures out t we will have showed a healthy profit in 2012. Read the Website Review next week to see how it all panned out.
ADVISED LAST WEEK
