A relatively quiet week by our kennel's standards was made dramatic by a super Sunday where we amassed an incredible 10 open race winners at both Towcester and Henlow. Searching my memory I'm pretty sure that's the most open race winners our kennel has ever had in one single day and as they say in golf we left a couple of shots out there as well but I expect that's me being greedy!
Towcester's Sunday matinee card is reasonably well attended but from next week the restaurant will be fully open and along with the weather gradually beginning to turn this could prove a popular family day out. With free entry and the tremendous facilities available and of course with some top class action on the track it will hopefully bring in the revenue needed for Towcester's long term goals. Yes it's not easy to cover a busy Sunday afternoon card but we have to give it our full attention as the promise of a decent percentage of any profits from the Towcester managethird Sunday of the new era and by far our most successful to date as open race winners came from all angles. Cloudbursting made it three wins from three starts in the sprint, he certainly made people stand up and take notice as he trapped last and showed breathtaking pace to lead up and score well. Calco Flyer is a dog on form and took a standard 480m in good style. Vanrooney showed why he is a dog to be feared over the strong stayers trip with another 6 length plus victory. Swift Whirlwind upset the two big guns of Barrie Draper and Seamus Cahill with a shock 12/1 win in the puppy race. Aayamzaone returned to winning form in the bitches 480m, the furthest she has been so far. Blue Moment is without doubt the current four bend track champion and was awesome in beating kennelmate and the top bitch at the track in Domino Storm. Evanta De Leon made it seven winners on the day with his first win for Evan Herbert in a novice stayers to complete a superb day at our new home. Not all good news though as our van broke down when trying to leave the track which meant an extra long day for Kevin and Luke who were on duty for us.
Over at Henlow the semi finals of the Bunny Bookmakers Gold Cup saw another scintillating victory for Blonde Razor who led all the way to score in a fastest 33.24 with Vanfrenchie eliminated. Blackstone Marco suffered a rare defeat but qualified for next week's final when 2nd beaten 3 lengths to Blackrose Tyson in 33.42. Airport Captain took the last semi final in 33.53 to set up an intriguing final where Blonde Razor goes from his favourite trap 3 slot and Blackstone Marco runs from trap 4 which is where he won the Cesarewitch from at the end of last year. Both Aero Babooshka (sprint) and Ilewin Allott, who beat kennelmate Huggies Buck by a short head, made it a magnificent 10 open winners on the day.
There was one other slightly important competition starting as well with the heats of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket kicking off at Crayford on Saturday. The favourite Roxholme Dream won easily but wasn't as impressive as I thought she would be but only a fool would lay against Hayleigh Keightley's bitch winning the final. Racenight Jenny was more impressive to me and Tony Collett's charge is a class act. We only had the one entry in the shape of Black Francis and he ran well to finish 2nd behind Droopys Bear and though he needs to step up slightly, which I'm sure he will, he has drawn a plum trap 1 slot in the semi finals on Thursday afternoon.
I have covered everything above
On Friday from our six runners Kid Charlemagne nearly scored his debut win but was just caught close to the line after showing good early pace to lead up. Safrrons Champ (3rd) and Swift Finn (4th) were both just a couple of lengths down in an A3 but a nice surprise came as young pup Parkers Poison won a decent P5 in great style in 28.81 on a slow track. Aclamon Josie was a desperately unlucky loser over 655m.
On Saturday we had plenty of placed finishers but no winners. Ribble Atom, Club Notes, Toosey Fern and Poodle Star all ran when 2nd.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
On Thursday afternoon at Crayford the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket semi finals take centre stage and Black Francis runs from his favoured trap 1. Also on is the Peter Bussey Memorial Trophy heats and Jimmy Nailed On represents the kennel in a competition we have won the last three years with Aayamzamodel, Bridge Bandit and Aero Joker. Jimmy Nailed On trialled well over track and trip on Saturday.
We will be at Romford Friday and on Sunday afternoon we hope to have another successful day at Towcester in the opens before we go off to Henlow for the final of the Bunny Bookmakers Gold Cup final with Blackstone Marco and Blonde Razor.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Black Francis is the centre of attention this week as he safely qualified from the first round of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket and he has a tough semi final at Crayford on Thursday but the red vest is a massive help. Hopefully all our supporters are on at the 33/1 + recommended! Jimmy Nailed On might be worth a small ante post bet to land our 4th consecutive Peter Bussey Memorial Trophy win.
