A quiet week overall for the kennel as we brace ourselves for a busy July with the big competitions at Sunderland and Hove amongst others. We are however really busy at Towcester with plenty of runners over the weekend. The European Football Championships certainly seems to affect the crowds and though it was reasonably busy on Friday the England game on Saturday meant many people stayed away, I'm sure the promoters can't wait for the tournament to finish already!
A lot of our open racers are resting for a couple of weeks more but we did travel to Henlow on Sunday with four entries in the mini Derby over 428m with both Saffrons Anna and Evanta Fantasy qualifying for next week's semi final. The night was spoilt by horrendous weather with thunder and lightning as well as a torrential downpour, the hare came off during two races when the pulleys were flooded and in the end they did well to get most of the races off without incident. Unfortunately both our runners have been drawn in the sane semi final on Sunday and are boxed up in traps 3 & 4!
Our triple Category 1 winner Patchys Kerry returns from a break on her build up to Sunderland, a track which will suit her I'm sure, when she has a sprint trial at Towcester tonight, she had a Handslip on Friday and went really well. A victory in the Grand Prix will certainly make her a strong favourite for the 'Greyhound of the Year' even at this early stage of the year.
As said last week watch out for our list of runners to come up for our annual free to enter 5 To Follow competition that starts on July 1st, it's great fun following your picks for the rest of the year and we will find some nice prizes for the winners.
On Tuesday at Towcester Ela Ela Genie won his first open race with a great burst of pace in a sprint to win in a fine 15.28, Ferryforth Fran was set to win the stayers when the hare was stopped in the interest of safety.
No luck at Hove on Thursday with Mass Megan runner up in the Winner of One final, Tellhimjohn was also 2nd in a 515m Standard. Both Saffrons Anna and Evanta Fantasy qualified for the semi's of the Henlow Mini Derby on Sunday when 2nd in their respective heats.
Swift Windmill landed the Owners Bonus Series final on Tuesday coming from off the pace to win in 28.83 and looks a fine prospect.
A double on Friday with Roswell Redkite winning well in an A5 in a good 28.33 while Parkers Prince scored in an A6 in 29.89.
On Saturday Swift Clare looked in trouble but came through in style to win an A7 in 29.11, Experto Crede also came from off the pace to win in 28.82.
