Winner - £10,000 Blue Square Arc - Swindon - 480m

In Corrig Vieri's short career to date, last month's glorious Blue Square Arc triumph worth £10,000 was his crowning moment. This title was the third competition win for this son of Droopys Vieri, one of our kennels favourite stud dogs with the likes of Grand Prix champion January Tiger among his protege.
'Dusty's arrival at the kennel as an unraced pup
spotted by Michael Whyte last May came just as the bad news of Walthamstow's impending closure and his initial trials and first five races, including a poor 1st round effort in the Wimbledon Puppy Derby and a heavy defeat in an A4 at the Stow, gave no indication of what was to come. The turning point came when entered in a small Maiden event over 500m at Sittingbourne where he led at the fourth bend and pulled away to win by 2 lengths in a good 30.75. In the final he got no run at all but ran well to finish 3rd.
A step up to a sharp six bends over 575m at Romford in a puppy open didn't quite tell us too much after he was well beaten in 2nd but it seemed worth entering him in the Peterborough Puppy Cesarawitch where he duly bolted up in his heat by
nearly 14 lengths in 40.91 on going rated 280 slow. Made an even money shot in the final, it looked all over when he led recording a flying 14.42 sectional but in the end held off the late challenge of Westmead Serin to win the prestigious trophy, won in the past by the likes of Spiridon Louis and Roxholme Girl, by 3/4 length in 38.19. Next tried over the more demanding 625m at Coventry a couple of seconds were followed by another win at Peterborough and after a short break he was to drop back to four bends in the heats of the Autumn Dual Distance Cup where he again was second but there were no mistakes in the final this time over 625m when he led at 3/4 to go on and score by 2 3/4 lengths in 39.81 calc.
Another win came back at Romford over 575m before a tame exit in the Essex Vase when we decided to give him a two months off. Brought
back for a trials at Coventry and Romford we gave him a trial over the more demanding 480m at Swindon where he went very well (28.85) to be
entered in the Arc. Wins in round 1 and 2 recording a flying 28.32 calc he looked almost out in the semi after finding plenty of trouble but battled on well to qualify for the final. Clearing trap 1 favourite
Shaneboy Luke was a bonus and when he nipped inside pace setter Grillagh Guru at the first bend to take a clear lead all eyes were on where Lenson Express was - worryingly he was just a couple of lengths behind us but a superb line at the third bend chopped his rival off and maintaining a strong gallop he cossed the line 1 3/4 lengths to give owners Barrie & Rose Peters their biggest thrill to date and the kennel a second consecutive Arc win.
The Trainers Championship meeting at Sheffield is next on the agenda with maybe a crack at both the Scottish and English Derbys before he steps back up in trip.
